"Green" innovations as a flywheel for changes in mining regions is another discussion panel as part of the "Towards a Green Economy" conference, which took place at the International Congress Centre in Katowice.
The debate, moderated by Jan Bondaruk, Deputy Director of the Central Mining Institute in Katowice, was attended by: Stephan Rohde, Director of the Department of Structural Development in brown coal areas (Federal State of Saxony), Piotr Pryciński, Deputy Director of the Strategy Department, The National Centre for Research and Development, Iwona Jelonek, university professor, Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Silesia, Kamil Szydłowski, InnoEnergy Central Europe, Esteban Pelayo, Director of the European Association of Development Agencies EURADA, Bartłomiej Płonka, President of the Board of the Silesian Center for Science and Technology of Aviation Industry Ltd.
Experts talked about experiences related to implementation of green innovations, good practices and how to overcome barriers that can be encountered on the path of transformation. As stressed, in order for "green" innovations to develop, huge investments are needed, not only economic, but also investments in the development of human resources.
Stephan Rohde, Director of the Department of Structural Development in brown coal areas in the Federal State of Saxony, talked about how the transformation program is implemented across the western border and about the changes that were necessary to start these activities. "It is important to invest in both rail and road infrastructure to relieve the centers and thus reduce atmospheric pollution", explained Stephan Rohde, emphasizing the importance of "green energy" derived from waste treatment.
One of the speakers was Piotr Pryciński, Deputy Director of the Strategy Department at the National Centre for Research and Development, who based on the example of implemented projects talked about changing the approach of entrepreneurs to innovative activities. The importance of synergy between entities that implement innovative programs and entities operating locally was also emphasized.
Esteban Pelayo, Director of the European Association of Development Agencies EURADA, emphasized in his speech the importance of cooperation between local government entities and institutions. He said that good allocation of financial resources, appropriate dynamics and local activities will allow the project to survive and its effects would bring benefits over the next years.
